Man Arrested for Illegal Arms Trafficking in Argentina

Buenos Aires, March 14 (NA) – A 27-year-old man has been remanded in custody after being investigated for purchasing 10 firearms, registering them legally in his name, and subsequently diverting them to the illegal market at various points in Santa Fe province.

The precautionary measure was ordered by Judge Sebastián Szeifert at the request of prosecutors Juliana González, Natalia Giordano, and Guillermo Persello during a hearing held in the provincial capital's courts.

Prosecutor Juliana González, a member of the Strategic Approach to Firearms Working Group of the MPA's Prosecutor's Office, specified that "this is a proactive investigation in which, by crossing information from different state entities, we were able to determine that the accused is a legitimate user of firearms and we also confirmed that he purchased eight semi-automatic pistols with high offensive power".

Regarding the detainee's financial capacity, the official stated that "to make the purchase, the accused spent 7,197,850 pesos, money whose origin he could not legally justify given his employment and financial situation".

During the investigation, as reported by the Argentine News Agency, the prosecutor's office confirmed through the Automated Ballistic Identification System that one of the firearms, which should have been in the accused's custody, was seized in December in Rosario during an aggravated robbery, in addition to matching a case of serious injuries from June 2025.

González emphasized that "in the databases of Renar and the MPA's Heimdall system, there is no record of a report of loss, theft, or transfer related to this pistol seized in Rosario, nor for the rest of the weapons that were not found at the storage place; on the contrary, the registration of the 10 firearms remains in effect in the accused's name as a legitimate user".

Prosecutor Guillermo Persello detailed the results of the search conducted at the residence declared by the subject, where the registered firearms were not found.

Persello emphasized that the man "had no documentation authorizing the possession and/or carrying of any kind".

Finally, in simultaneous operations, the two registered shotguns, 152 grams of cocaine, a precision scale, a safe, and four roosters with injuries compatible with clandestine fights were seized.

The detainee was charged with aggravated illegal supply of firearms, possession of war weapons, drug trafficking, animal mistreatment, and co-authorship of a motorcycle robbery in the city of Esperanza.
